So I finally bought myself a digital SLR. I’ve wanted an SLR since I was a teenager and started to play around with my fathers Canon AE-1<\/a>. I went and bought a Canon EOS 50D<\/a> with the EF-S 17-85mm f\/4-5.6 IS USM<\/a> lens. I also picked up an EF 50mm f\/1.8 II<\/a> lens.<\/p>\n

So far I’m very pleased with my purchases. Time will tell however after the initial joy of having my new toy elapses and I can be more critical about what it can and can’t do. I had also been looking at the Canon Rebel T1i as it is much smaller and lighter and I am concerned about how heavy the 50D is. The heavier and bulkier a camera is, the less likely you are to carry it around on a regular basis. I suspect I will leave my Canon PowerShot SD870 IS<\/a> in my bag all the time and only bring out the 50D when I intend to take pictures. That being said, I will be taking it with me to Germany this summer.<\/p>\n

I am still figuring out the camera and have much reading to do before I can say that I fully understand it and know how to take full advantage of it. On top of that, I have to review good photography practices. It has been a while since I’ve had a camera that you need to do more than point and shoot.<\/p>\n

Here are few pictures I’ve taken over the last few days. I need to watch out for my shaky hands when using the 50mm lens in low light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
